There was no problem getting Jack (he was never called Jackie outside of football circles) to agree to the project. I first contacted him when researching Gil's book and his response was "Typical Gil, why wont somebody write my story?" So we did and whilst it was not a labour of love (ex-Aston Villa remember) it was very rewarding as Jack had a mother who kept everything associated with her son's career and his wife Margaret carried on the tradition. He took me into the back bedroom of his bungalow and it was full of memorabilia! He even kept the socks he wore in the 1957 FA Cup Final!
